Which BCW Cardboard Boxes are Large Enough for Card Holders or Graded Cards?

Most BCW cardboard boxes are only large enough to hold standard 2½” x 3½” cards or cards in sleeves. However several boxes have wider rows to accommodate cards in protective holders such as semi-rigids, toploaders, 1-screws, magnetics or other holders or cases. Some BCW boxes are designed to hold graded cards or other tall cards. A few boxes have both wide rows and increased height.

If you are trying to decide which BCW boxes are right for your collection, the list below shows the basic sizes. If you store cards in protective holders, you’ll need a box with WIDE rows. If you have graded cards, other tall cards, or you have 4-screw card holders, get a box labelled GRADED.

Note the length of the card boxes are often named by the number of cards they can hold, such as a 930-ct. Box, however these sizes are based on the thickness of a traditional card. Modern cards are often thicker than traditional Topps baseball cards. Learn more

  1. I’ve been waiting for this information my whole life and didn’t even know it. THANK YOU! Time to pitch some mismatched boxes and get what I really need.

  2. I have a question: I own a lot of the Graded Shoe Box. They are fantastic boxes and are able to hold graded cards enclosed in graded team bags. They also comfortably hold one touch and normal top loaders with team bags and one-touch re-seal able bags over them. The width of the Graded Shoe Box is listed as “wide”.

Would it be fair to say that the Super Shoe Storage Box (3,000 ct.), also labeled as “wide” would be able to hold the same team bagged, top loaders and one touches? I assume that it would also hold graded cards, you just wouldn’t be able to close the box with a lid because of the height.

In simpler terms, are the row widths the same on the Graded Shoe Box and Super Shoe Storage Box? Both products are listed as “wide”, so both should be able to hold graded cards, but the Super Shoe Storage Box probably would not be able to be closed due to height.

    • TGov – The graded card slabs are almost 1/4″ wider than toploaders and magnetics. Graded cards are too wide (and tall as you noted) for a Super Shoe Box. The term “wide” in the chart loosely refers to “wide enough for toploaders and magnetics”. For specific dimensions for each box, please click through to their respective webpage. Thanks.

  3. I’m looking for a shoe box that would hold PSA graded 1964 Topps Hockey (Tallboys). In their graded case each cards dimensions are, width 4.25″ and length 7.25″.
    Thanks for your help.
    Terry

  4. I’m looking to store vintage individual sets of standard size baseball cards (the 60s-80s) so boxes of 800+ seem what I would need. I have duplicates as well. I want to sleeve all the cards and I am looking for a box to be able to accommodate 800+ sleeved cards, using either BCW, UP, or CBG sleeves.

Can you make a suggestion, please?

  5. i am unable to tell if any of the monster or super monster card boxes will hold cards in toploader sleeves. according the dimension listed both the 2-7/8 and 2-3/4 will not be large enough. i just want to be sure before i purchase these. can you confirm.

    • You are correct, the rows of the Super Monster Box and Monster Box are NOT wide enough to accommodate toploaders. Please refer to the chart above and select a box with the green “WIDE” description. The 3-row Super Shoe (cardboard), or the 4-row Card Bin (plastic) are the large options. Thanks

  7. I have collected large numbers of playing card decks (in cases) over time and I been a storage solution to organize my collection. I would like a storage solution that puts the deck on its side vice bottom. What do you suggest?
